Fishing line reel ratings: Mono vs Braid?
I am looking to buy a Daiwa Sealine-X SHA30. The reel is rated for 25 lbs mono to 235 yards, I think. If I put 30-pound braid on it, which will highlight reel? Thank you.
Sealine will handle about 100 pounds braid. I would not put £ 30 gallons in that reel. 30-pound braid is 8 lb mono diameter, you'll be getting somethng about 650-700yds there. That's a lot line … unless you're trying to get down. I would consider using something more like 65-gallon 80 pounds or 40-60 pounds 25-40 pounds dacron backing monkey. Mono support helps keep the braid from slipping on the spool. Furthermore, the Levelwind reels not like yours, you have to line thumb …. I would not like to thumb 30-pound braid, never. That can seriously injure you. If you look at 30 pounds, make sure you have coverage of the thumb or the line of gloves to protect their fingers.
