Spring Northern Pike Fishing in Canada

Spring is an excellent time to fish for pike in northern Canada. Pike immediately generate that ice melts in spring when the water rises about 40 F.

After spawning Northern Pike hungry. Pike are naturally aggressive so are greedy this time of year. They will attack almost anything. I suggest keeping your fingers out of the water as much as possible, really. I saw a pike thrust out of the water to attack a silver spoon hanging out the side of the canoe. I reeled my line and sat my stick down so that my father could take the itch he had to.

I realized that the waves were splashing my lure just above the water. My reel caught the side of the canoe and made a huge explosion. The noise surprised me, but I kept my rod reel to go overboard and I really capturing. Pike was an average for the area, about 7-8 pounds.

It took about 45 minutes to reel in both fish, and he was so tangled. It is best to reel in the line if someone else fishing on his boat to stop this from happening. If we had not tangled probably would have caught more than 2 Northern Pike over that period of 45 minutes of time.

Spring Northern Pike tend to hide in the spawning grounds on which the areas often shallow, marshy lake. If you know where there is an area of shallow backwater lake in Pike Pike know you will probably find there in the spring.

Casting spoons and drag the shapes are great for connecting a monster Northern Pike in the spring. Troll coastlines and near the weed beds. Points in these shallow areas also provide excellent opportunity for a great land of northern Pike.

Meddling in areas where they hide is extremely Pike efficient if done correctly. Do not make the mistake of dragging too slow. Pike like to ambush attack and can move really fast. Trolling less than 4 miles per hour are more than hammer handles and medium size Pike. A good drift velocity for Northern Pike is 4-5 miles per hour. If you are in a small boat can be used a GPS unit in hand to watch their speed.

Weedless Spoons are premium Pike baits this time of year. You can troll through small patches of weeds without that hooked most of the time.

I've heard people say you need big baits catch big Pike. Pounds This may be true in the summer, but I've seen more than 20 captured in the spring with an average size of a spoon Pike. The Johnson Silver Minnow is an excellent weedless spoon, only make sure to sharpen the hook.

I like to sharpen my hooks with a jewelers file I have in my tackle box. No matter what you use to make sure it works well and keep all your lures Pike acute. The monster Pike have teeth very thick plates on the roof of his mouth. You may have to enter the same thick cushion if the lure does not have a needle sharp hook that will not work. That monster Pike probably spit the hook.

I was lucky with top water baits as well. Buzz Baits, errors, jitter, and other top water baits designed for fishing Pike and musk. Remember to quickly move along the primers as mentioned.

It is not uncommon for a big Northern Pike out of the water and splash around like a bass. Pike also tend to wallow in their line once hooked. Pike can wrap your fishing line up all around his body and add the lines very easily.

It is best to use a steel leader, even when Braided line is used. The braided line works great for pike fishing, be careful. Make sure your fishing rod is designed for line braided or breaks the shirt in his buttonhole.

Works Pike bait at almost any time of year. If there are any near streams or rivers by which you can take a small truck with a hook and worm created to capture creek chubs or legal bait.

Establish a platform with a large cork, hook and cane and threw Pike to areas where it belongs. Sometimes this method will produce a monster Pike that is too smart to hit a lure.
