The Mississippi River is the upper Mississippi River located upstream of Cairo, Illinois. In the distant past the upper Mississippi River flowed in abundance and roaming at will where many channels cut in some places and filling in others. The high Mississippi River water levels changed as the seasons change every year. Over time, the river has been constantly modified in an effort to improve safety navigation. In an effort to protect the habitat of the river decreased wildlife refuges have been created since the 1920s. The Mississippi River Superior declared himself a "nationally significant ecosystem and nationally significant navigation system in 1986.

There are also a number of regions along the river, where there are dense forests, which provide a good habitat for wildlife that lives in the Upper Mississippi River. Over 120 species of fish and 25 species of freshwater mussels call the upper house of the Mississippi River habitat.

Many of the villages situated along the course of the rivers have docking or mooring facilities and you can find basic services, facilities and even moderate luxury facilities. If you are exploring and need for additional mooring facilities, then there are beaches, islands and side channels. There are a number of campsites age over the course of the upper Mississippi River, which are close to civilization. Public and private campsites are also located along the River. Also There are many cities that offer facilities of accommodation ranging from motels to bed and breakfast, and most are near a pier.
For many years the upper Mississippi River has been treasured for its natural abundance and utility. As a focal point for commerce and recreation that many people go up and down the river for a long time.
