New to fly fishing and the need for some fishing gear?
Hey i live on Vancouver Island and want to get into fly fishing. I fish for rainbow trout and trout in rivers and lakes as well as coho in tidal waters, what kind of configuration I recommend for a beginner and I bought waders and shoes and accessories you need, I'm just not sure about what to get rod and reel and the line thickness and tippet. I was thinking of a line 6w as 5W or tippet with a 2x or 3x. I understand how to line widths and strengths work tippet, I just want a second opinion on some do buy before buy. I have about 200 $ to spend (more or less) and would like saltwater test something. Thanks (and I have a cane rod 9 feet which my father gave me thats nice for a while a little dated, so you can use that if the reel is more expensive or both custom fit in my reach, but still require a reel) Thanks
I recommend looking into a loaf of Cortland and combined in a 6wt reel. The reason that I recommend is that Cortland has an excellent warranty on their products. No matter what you do or how old it is, will repair / replace your rod and reel. I know people who have closed the doors of the vehicle and were replaced free (less expenses shipping). Since you just started, this rod works great and you do not notice a quality difference between this and a top of the line installation. The material tippet will depend on the exact fish that are directed to that day and water conditions. If it is very clear slow and it takes a lighter weight if I go quick and dirty with a heavier weight leader and tippet. Good luck and tight lines!
