Fishing by Moon Phase: Increased capture
The dream of every fisherman to catch more! Is it possible to know beforehand when you should plan a trip to enjoy some fishing, catch more than usual, and come home feeling 100% satisfied? Based on my personal research around the best fishing times, I think it is.
When I started fishing, the best fishing time for me was all the time spent for my taste. I tried different lures, baits and techniques until they had spent a small fortune in my quest to improve my fishing catch. When finally heard about the "Theory of Solunar "fishing – or moon phase – like most anglers, I was skeptical.
I'd read sounded too complicated. All types of factors needed to be checked and the determined angler needed to be at the water's edge at the right time to the minute, in order to improve his average catch. Was he really willing to take my hobby that seriously? Let's say that curiosity got the better of me.
To help determine if there is any truth to the effect of the moon in the best fishing times, I kept a record of every trip I made over a period of 18 months. All information related to the phases of the moon, weather conditions and the catches I made were carefully recorded. What I discovered convinced me that moon phase fishing works. But we also found that there is not nearly as complicated as many would have us believe.
How does fishing by the moon phase of work?
Every fisherman knows that the best fishing times when fish are feeding. This tends to be during dawn and dusk, but what often goes unnoticed are the two periods in the rest of the day – moonrise and moonset. Because the moon has an effect on a variety of factors surrounding the fish – including live feed hunt – these periods, combined with the phase of the moon, are what trigger feeding.
Understanding this, and choosing times when sunrise / sunset and moonrise / Moonset coincide with new or full moon phases, will have to increase the possibility of a good fishing catch. Assuming there are fish in the area, of course.
Choosing the best fishing Times
There really is nothing complicated about this at all, is only a matter of knowing in advance exactly when the sun and moon will rise and set. The fish are most active for 90 minutes the windows around each of these four events a day, that's 45 minutes before and after of these four points a day.
Fishing during these four periods will help increase your fishing catch, but if you plan carefully to ensure on the edge of the water in the days of new or full moon, you can use these "windows" go for catches like you've never done before. If they have to choose between sunrise / SET and moonrise / set, always go to the moon as the moon is the strongest influence.
Hunters have long known that fishing and game are most active at dawn and dusk – sunrise and sunset – but its activity around moonrise and moonset is less clear because these events can occur without any change in the perceived light. The climate of the place and the set of the new moon is invisible anyway, and overcast often hides the moon. Without prior knowledge of the environment and rising times, two of the best fishing times will be missed every day!
Other considerations
When planning your fishing by moon phase, there are some other factors should also be considered.
Weather – Severe weather changes have an impact in fish feed as well. When brewing a storm, or only after one has passed, is a good time. If this happens while you're in place, you will be in for a treat! However, if a cold front, the fish tend to move more in water and become inactive.
Season – Most fish are more likely to bite at ease during seasonal transitions with the transition from winter to spring and summer to autumn are the two fastest times of the fishing.
Now that you know that moon phase fishing really works, there is no reason why you should not use this knowledge to increase their fish catch one's own being in the list with his staff on the best fishing times available. It's easy and it works!
