Filter is a necessity in a small pond with fish?
Or a bomb with a cascade sufficient to create the right environment for fish to survive? My pond is about 200 gallons and I would say about 1 / 5 of that is in the shade and has a deep end and shallow. I put some LOCK water and ammunition to combat chlorine water from the hose. Filter still necessary?
It is not strictly necessary but is actually much more simple to maintain and provide a healthier environment for your fish. I have a pool of 550 liters, with about 15 goldfish (2 to 7 inches long) and numerous plants like water lilies and hyacinths. Have you already purchased the pump? If not, consider buying one that runs the water through a filter. I have 2 pumps, one of which powers of a waterfall, and both have built-in filters in the pumps. During the summer, clean the filters of the pump – which are a type of rough-textured carpet, and scrub sponges giant pot every other week, by rinsing with a garden hose. Every time I rinse the filters, I can add BioBOOST, adding beneficial bacteria for water. I also add barley straw pads or pellets to prevent algae growth. That's it! I never have to drain the pond, and remains clear, with fish healthy plants. If you do not have any filtering will be much more difficult to keep water clear. It is possible to achieve the right balance between delicate symbiotic vegetation and fish without a filter, but not easy. I really urge you to get a pump with a filter.
