I read that the Earth's magnetic field is building slowly toward a reversal, with centuries of no magnetic field on the investment. Goodness, you must have a pretty good life if this is what we find to worry about. Be that as in any case is not that such an event is "anticipated" but that such an event is possible sometime in the next million years. But as near as I can read, it is unlikely to be a period of field "no" magnetic. It could not find any precise description of the physical consequences of a reversal of polarity. It is like the Earth would lose gravity, what we all float. As for your other concerns unrelated to the polarity reversal: loks as fodder for another book of science fiction. Why not try to write one. It will help free the mind concern about the polarity reversal.
