Saltwater Fly Fishing Tips
Are you an experienced fly fisherman freshwater or a saltwater fisherman looking to add a new dimension and fresh fish to your liking? Why not take up fly fishing in salt water? It's a wonderful hobby, but can be difficult.
If you are already doing fly fishing freshwater, be ready to prepare for a different type of fishing. You most probably need a heavier rod, reel and line. What is the reason for this? However, unlike freshwater fishing, the ocean or the bay tends to be more wind and more weight needs to cut the wind. In addition, fish tend to be heavier on the salt water.
For example, the best models for any use would be a rod of 8-1/2 to 9 feet long. Line weight? Again, for all around use of a 7, 8 or 9 weight line would be ideal. Needless to say, you must use a balanced fishing rod their weight online. Of course, these are only a half pesos. If you know you can fish in the wind conditions mainly low, you can bump your line weight for three levels or more and wind, can bump up three notches. Since fly fishing equipment is expensive, do your homework and buy what will work for you.
The patterns used in saltwater fly are different from those used in freshwater. This makes sense when you think about it because the food available to fish is different. Remember, match the hatch. Some popular patterns are crabs, shrimp, bait, and marine worms. As with fresh water, which works splendidly one day can be a total wash the next.
How does the fisherman find the water more productive? Consider that the activity of the tides is the device that modulates the living conditions of the coast. Let us consider the Gulf of Mexico and that's what I'm most familiar with.
Passes and estuaries bring fresh saltwater from the Gulf and about six hours after the return of a more dilute mixture of water back into the Gulf of Mexico. Flats and estuaries go through a cycle of flooding and almost exhausted. This serves to provide the food eaten by the bait and other prey that attract redfish, drum, trout and other game fish Gulf.
This constant flood / wash cycle generates natural channels. All forms of life use of these channels as "roads" in the traveling. These channels are any number of sizes, depending on local conditions. They can be up to a hundred meters wide and several inches or a few feet deep that the bottom of the surroundings. Phytoplankton float languidly in the mainstream and come after your bait, because phytoplankton is the main source of food. Sport fishing is after browsing through these "roads" and I think the bait, crabs and other prey. You, as a fly fisherman, use these same ways to find and remove your prey, which is of course fly fishing.
So you see, are just another part of the natural cycle of life. By becoming familiar with the tides local (you can buy a table, or simply the period) and whereabouts of their channels, the fisherman can find areas where game fish are active and when of their diet is more likely to be aggressive.
Now let's take a moment to consider how it is to get the fish. If you are fishing near the coast, for example at a dock or on shore, you can only find a place where fish are judged to be and where you can make a good presentation. An alternative This is wading popular. If you are wading, stripes can be a real problem. Fortunately, some new boots on the market are made of materials dealing with very effective. One case of intensification of the tail of a stingray will kill a potential value of a month of fishing and to recover.
