Gizzard Shad Dead freezing for later fishing trips?
Anybody know if it is legal to keep dead and frozen shad fishing later in a season? There are many dying, and I think would make great bait later in the season for some catfish and used as trailers for other species sports.
Depending on the area of (State) the fish, there may be a limit to the number you can keep up to date. As for its use throughout year, should not be a problem unless local laws prohibit their use. Check with your local fisheries management. Now I get to the Nitty Gritty! Assuming that you are authorized to keep and use throughout the year, take my advice and brine them. This will allow its conservation in nearly perfect condition all seaon in the freezer.
