So you've just taken over a new trailer tent road and are itching to give it a try. Where are you going to test their skills off-road driving?
Do not look for Queensland's most beautiful islands Moreton Bay. For those who enjoy peace and quiet of the natural environment, both Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island offers the possibility of returning to nature. As the islands second and third in the world arena, respectively, offering stunning beaches of white sand, clear water, glass and plenty of opportunities to escape the crowds with a tent trailer off road camper.
North Stradbroke Island 'affectionately known as' – Straddie' offers comfort and things to do for the whole family. The island is only accessible to visitors in the north, the south of the island is privately owned. However, there is much to do and see. From swimming, boating and fishing and whale watching (June to November), there will never be a shortage of activities.
A couple of off road camping options await you in Straddie: Flinders Beach Foreshore Beach and Main Beach – both of which are only accessible from the beach. The 4WD permit is required for camping at both locations and the cost of this is in addition to the cost of camping there. Except for some composting toilets at Flinders Beach, there are no facilities in either so it is best to come equipped with a full tent camper trailer.
Main Beach offers 35 miles of unspoiled sandy beach, patrolled on one side and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. From this beach you can fish for dinner and nearby North Creek Headwaters walk you can get a great view of the annual migration of whales. Of course, if you do not want to be too far from civilization, restaurants and cafes Mirador point are just a few minutes by car. Bookings are essential for camping at Flinders Beach, especially during school holidays and it is worth remembering that this beach is not patrolled.
Up on Moreton Island 4WD Camping more Camping in the Blue Lagoon. Located in east side of the island, this campsite is only accessible by 4WD and offers peaceful seclusion in one of only 25 sites. The Blue Lagoon itself is a freshwater lake with crystal clear waters offering the perfect spot for a cooling swim.
remote beach camping is also available in the Northwest, North-East, South-West, Southeast and yellow patch camping areas, all the sites available with sea views.
What we need to remember to take with you on Moreton Island are the fuel of the vehicle, as none is available on the island itself, and firewood for campfires as it is illegal to collect firewood on the island. You will also have to remember to bring your vehicle 4WD and camping permits. Also make sure you have the general supplies to the majority because they are generally limited supplies available on the island. Above everything that you should plan for contingencies such as medical care is far away.
Both Moreton and North Stradbroke Island can be reached by regular ferry Cleveland vehicles – only 20 minutes from Brisbane. The crossing to either island is about 40 minutes in protected waters.
So with virgin overlooking the Pacific Ocean and its sandy beaches that offer what are you waiting for? Pack up the tent trailer and get going!
